I received a naming error when I updated the name of a fire station from "City of Nashua Fire and Rescue Station 4" to "City of Nashua Fire and Rescue Station 4 - Crown Hill Fire Station". I thought it might be the hyphen in the name, but maybe it's the use of "Fire Station" twice in the name. The fire district's web site just lists the station as "Station 4 - Crown Hill Fire Station". What's the "correct" naming of the facility?

Based on the magic filter error message this point triggered, it didn't like the inclusion of "City of" in the name. However, if this is an official part of the name, it is acceptable to include, regardless of whether or not it triggers an error message. This doesn't appear to be the case with Nashua, however: I didn't see "City of" included in the name anywhere on their website. Hyphens can also be included in names and addresses as long as there is a space on either side.

Also, as long as the name you've entered matches the name listed on an authoritative source, then there's nothing to worry about. It is however, important to streamline names that might be particularly long, such as "City of Nashua Fire and Rescue Station 4 - Crown Hill Fire Station". When possible, remove redundancies (e.g., the use of the word "Station" twice), and only include words included in the official name. To streamline this name, I would use: "Nashua Fire Rescue Station 4 - Crown Hill".

Keep in mind that the "magic filter" that produces the error messages can be seen as a blunt tool that's useful for picking up on general errors or anomalies, but isn't capable of sifting through certain nuances of editing. Since the filter lacks human judgement it might interpret certain phrases or unusual bits of information as errors. It's important to pay attention to those messages, but in some cases they just won't apply to you or the edits you've made. If an error message happens to pop up, it doesn't necessarily mean you've done something wrong.
