Instructions for changing symbols can be found in Step 2 of the Steps for Editing Existing Structure Features section of the User Guide.

Symbols can only be changed to other symbols of the same feature type. For example, an elementary school can only be changed to another type of school, it cannot be changed to a fire department or a prison. If a feature is obviously represented by the wrong symbol, e.g., a hospital is represented by a cemetery point, then the point will need to be deleted and recreated with the correct symbol since cemeteries and hospitals are not equivalent feature types. Equivalent feature types are always listed at the top of the editing window for each point. To change the symbol, click on one of those feature types.
