The site https://www.usgs.gov/core-science-systems/national-geospatial-program/national-map notes there is data downloads avialble for the points being edited by the TNMCorps, but doesn't clearly identify where the data is made available. The GNIS Domestic data exports note TNM periodically syncs with GNIS for manmade features managed now in TNM, but it is not clear when TNM edits are synced with GNIS or even if this happens. GNIS also doesn't include all the fields collected by TNM such as address.

How to download National Structures Dataset (NSD) edited by TNMCorps The structure points edited by TNMCorps are stored in the USGS National Structures Dataset (NSD). The feature types updated through TNMCorps are listed on the Structures Features List. The most current version of the NSD can be downloaded by a state or a national dataset through the National Map Viewer link on The National Map homepage. Select the Download Data option at the top of the map on the National Map Viewer screen. On the following screen, indicate the area of interest on the map and then select the radial button next to “Structures – National Structures Dataset”. The next step is to select the Find Products button near the top of the screen and the available files will be shown for download. The NSD layers are also available through the National Map GIS Data Download page. This page contains a link under the Direct Access section to an FTP server site or an Amazon cloud site, which holds available NSD products under the “Struct” directory. These downloadable products for Structures are usually updated quarterly at minimum. The “LoadDate” attribute within the NSD dataset contains the date of last update for a specific feature. The connection between the NSD and GNIS When a point in the NSD is updated through a TNMCorps edit, and the point in the NSD contains a GNIS ID attribute, that feature will also be synced with the same feature in the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) on a daily basis, however, the GNIS Names database is updated for public release generally monthly . The GNIS Names datasets are available for download from the United States Board of Geographic Names (BGN) website under the Domestic Names Download option and the section called “States, Territories, Associated Areas of the United States”. The GNIS Names dataset is also available through the TNM Viewer download option. The GNIS Names downloads are only currently available in text delimited format. To determine if a GNIS feature has been recently updated, check the fields called Date Created or Date Edited. Note that not all attributes of the NSD are available through the GNIS Names dataset. The name of the feature and the location (latitude/longitude) are the main fields updated from the NSD. The NSD features crosswalk to the following GNIS Feature Class designations: Building, Cemetery, Hospital, Post Office and School. |
