I've been seeing Remotely Managed Post Offices (RMPOs) and Part Time Post Offices (PTPOs) in some rural areas. What are they, and should they be collected? |

According to the USPS manual (Handbook PO-101), Remotely Managed Post Offices (RMPOs) are staffed by Postal Service employees but are only open part-time. RMPOs report to an Administrative Post Office. Part Time Post Offices (PTPOs) are also staffed by Postal Service employees and only offer part time service hours, but they report to a district office. Because these facilities are staffed by USPS employees, they can be collected as Post Offices. If the official name (listed on usps.com) of one of these features includes either RMPO or PTPO, be sure to include that designation. If a point is not in usps.com, it may be listed as an RMPO or PTPO in the Postmaster Finder website. This website does not have a comprehensive list but is a useful tool. https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/postmasterfinder/welcome.htm Sometimes when researching whether to delete a post office, a recent news article will specify that the post office has been converted to an RMPO or PTPO. If this is found to be true, you can add the RMPO or PTPO to the name. |
