Do we collect Community Post Offices or Contract Postal Units? |

We have limited "Contract Postal Unit" (CPU) collection to those with a unique zip code. We also accept "Community Post Office" (CPO). "Contract Postal Unit" needs to be identified in the name. "CPU" is acceptable. A contract postal unit provides service in a community where an independent Post Office has been discontinued. Format of name: preference is "Meadview Contract Postal Unit" or "Meadview CPU". "Community Post Office" should be identified as such in the name or as a "CPO". The key to a CPO is that it is located in a community that used to have a post office and therefore a unique zip code. A CPO bears its community’s name and ZIP Code as part of a recognized mailing address. Excludes Mail drop locations (blue US Mail boxes), or contract locations which do not have their own zip code. |

To expand upon our answer above, we have limited the collection of "Contract Postal Units" (CPUs) to those with their own unique zip code. This special type of contract unit is called a "Community Post Office" (CPO). Most Contract Postal Units do not have their own unique ZIP code and, therefore, are not Community Post Offices. "Community Post Office" should be identified as such in the name or as a "CPO". The key to a CPO is that it is in a community that used to have a post office and therefore a unique zip code. A CPO bears its community’s name and ZIP Code as part of a recognized mailing address. We are not collecting other forms of a Contract Postal Unit (CPU), such as usually located in a store or place of business, operated by a contractor and which provides selected services, such as sells postage and supplies and accepts mail from the public. Excludes Mail drop locations (blue US Mail boxes), or contract locations which do not have their own zip code. |
