Welcome to the TNMCorps Q&A community!

Frequenty, I find that the zip code and town name provided from the USPS.COM website varies from the the zip code and town name provided by the authoritative source website.

For example: I just edited the Port Graham School, in Port Graham, AK, the zip code for this area is 99603. The authoritative source indicates that the town for this zip code is Port Graham. The Postal website indicates the default (primary?) town for this zip code is Homer, AK. The Postal website also recognizes other town names for the zip code.

Which town name should we use?

In this particular case, and in other similar cases, any information entered for a feature should come directly from a primary authoritative source. USPS.com is the authoritative source for verifying Post Offices, however it should not be relied on to provide information about other features. If possible, always enter information that comes directly from the primary authoritative source for the feature in question.

Both Homer and Port Graham are located within the 99603 zip code, however they are over 20 miles apart, as the crow flies. So the correct town name to use in this instance would be 'Port Graham,' the one listed on the school's website.
