Greetings. I am finding multiple instances where two independent universities or colleges are sharing the same structure. For example, in Sterling, VA there is the Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) - Loudoun Campus (this feature has been marked). But directly across the street is a separate structure that appears to be claimed by both NVCC and George Mason University (GMU). GMU is located in Fairfax, VA and it has also been marked. Do both schools get marked on the same structure? Should we determine which school is the leading partner in sharing the structure and mark it accordingly? Should it be marked at all because it does not appear to be part of a university/college campus but is located in an office building? (This school was previously identified as belong to Old Dominion University, that should have no bearing on properly marking the structure, right?) GNIS: 2465468. Thanks for any information. |

If you can confirm that two (or more) distinct schools/colleges/universities occupy the same building or campus, then a point representing each unique school should be added to the map. It does not matter if the schools are sharing an office-type building or an actual campus. You are correct, the previous name of the structure would have no bearing on properly marking it. The name can simply be updated as long as you can confirm that this structure is a campus distinct from the others, and not an administrative building (or other department building, such as biology, psychology, etc.). Regarding this specific example, the point representing the Old Dominion University (with the GNIS ID 2465468: https://edits.nationalmap.gov/tnmcorps/?loc=39.0260,-77.3892,19), should should be updated to George Mason University - Mason in Loudoun Campus. The Old Dominion University - Northern Virginia Center is no longer in operation, and although the building now has a sign for NVCC, it is not considered a separate campus.
