Welcome to the TNMCorps Q&A community!

How should a cemetery be named if one cannot be found through an authoritative source? Would "cemetery" be sufficient? Maybe, "Unknown Cemetery"?

Thanks. Kent.

Great question. If you come across a cemetery for which you cannot find a name from a reliable source, we prefer that the cemetery not be added to the map.

If a point already exists in the editor for an unnamed cemetery that you can't verify, you can send an email to nationalmapcorps@usgs.gov. Be sure to include the coordinates for that cemetery and we will make the decision to delete the point or not based on what we find in the GNIS records.
