Welcome to the TNMCorps Q&A community!

In Michigan, many smaller cities contract with the county Sheriff to provide police services to the community. Middleville MI is an example of this. The do have an office on the map at, GNIS ID 2737490. However, it is not a stand alone police station, it is an office in the city hall.

Two questions:

  1. Collect this point?
  2. Name it Middleville Police (current name) or Barry County Sheriff's Office?

  1. Yes, this point should be collected. Sheriff's offices are frequently located within town/city hall buildings, or correctional facilities, but we still collect them.

  2. The name that you enter should be the one that is listed on their official website, in this case: 'Barry Countys Sheriffs Office Middleville Unit.'

The sheriff's office is contracted by the village, but it is not a separate police force. It is a sheriff's office providing police service to this community. There are not separate icons for police and the sheriff, so if the name reflects the one listed on an authoritative source, you are good to go.
