I'm not sure how to handle facilities that have adult classes and GED classes. I've come across a couple schools that have been re-purposed to community centers and while they do not have classes for traditional students, they do have adult classes. I feel like this is not addressed by the list of structures one way or the other. What does USGS want us to do with them? |
Would you mind providing an example? Are the classes offered more for continuing education, such as art or language courses? If so, then we don't collect those types of facilities. If it is a school that offers vocational programs for adults, then it can be labeled as a "technical/trade school." If you don't mind, send us an example or two and we can provide a more detailed response. Thanks! |
The Lansing Welcome Center largely does not fall under the criteria for a school. However, it does have classrooms for ESL adult classes and GED preparation. So before I did anything with it, I wanted to get a more informed opinion. |
We've deliberated about what to do with schools such as the Lansing Welcome Center. While we don't have any hard and fast rules for determining whether or not such schools should be collected, we can offer some guidance regarding this specific point. We determined that the Lansing Welcome Center can be collected and added to the database based on the following details:
Since adult education schools are a bit of a gray area they should be examined on a case-by-case basis. If you come across similar structures, please send an email to nationalmapcorps@usgs.gov with the name and location of the school and other resources that might be useful for researching the point in question. Thanks for bringing this to our attention! |
