What is a “constable” or “peace officer?” Do we include them with the Law Enforcement structures? |
A “constable” or “peace officer” is an elected official who assists law enforcement agencies with keeping civil order. They often receive the same training as police officers and perform similar duties. While we are not actively adding them to our database, if you come across an unedited point for a constable, we can keep the point based on a few conditions:
If you do come across a constable’s office that meets these criteria, editors should specify the name using this general format: For Example: “Smith County Constable – Precinct 4” https://www.smith-county.com/Law/Constables/Default.aspx As always, feel free to contact us at nationalmapcorps@usgs.gov if you have any questions or concerns. We're happy to guide you along on this process! |
