Constables? Peace Officers? Do we collect them?

A “constable” or “peace officer” is an elected official who assists law enforcement agencies with keeping civil order. They often receive the same training as police officers and perform similar duties.

While we are not actively adding them to our database, if you come across an unedited point for a constable, we can keep the point based on a few conditions:

1. The address can be verified with an authoritative source, and
2. The constables are based out of an office building, such as housed with an existing law enforcement center, police, sheriff’s, state trooper, or highway patrol office.

If you do come across a constable’s office that meets these criteria, editors should specify the name using this general format:

For Example: “Smith County Constable – Precinct 4”
