When looking up post offices, is it okay to use the USPS satellite view on the USPS location website to confirm the location of a post office? |
Great question! The answer is NO. The Find USPS Locations (https://tools.usps.com/go/POLocatorAction!input.action) page should be used to 1) confirm the post office exists, 2) verify the name and address, but the actual location of the building should be determined using our aerial imagery sources in the editor and additional sources such as Google Street View and Bing Birds Eye view, as needed. The reason that the map on the USPS site shouldn't be used to place the point, is because those locations are geocoded, and therefore the positional accuracy can vary widely and the marker shown may not be on the correct building. |
