ROSS TOWNSHIP FIRE POLICE Station 254 consist of fire police officers from all eight Ross Township Fire Departments. They operate as one emergency unit to enhance the safety of not only themselves but for fire fighters, police and all other emergency personnel as well as the traveling public. Fire police respond to fires, accidents, floods, parades, community functions and other emergency details. Shouild they be considered police or fire or niether? |

According to their website (http://www.rossfirepolice.org/pennsylvania-fire-police-law/), the Fire Police appear to act in more of a law enforcement capacity at fire scenes (as well as other events, as you mentioned) to "facilitate and prevent interference with the work of firemen in extinguishing fires." They have "full power to regulate traffic and keep crowds under control," but I see no mention of them actually performing the functions of firefighters. They also operate "under the direction and authority of the Ross Township Police Department." So labeling station 254 as "Police" would probably be most appropriate. |
